A little background on Batley:

The name Batley comes from Danish origin, meaning Valley or Homestead or bats, however it likely refers to the locally prominent Batte family. Batley’s parish church was built under the reign of Henry VI, and despite Batley being an ancient town, the church is all that remains of its antiquity.
